Patriots Match Longest Winning Streak From Brady Era with Triumph Against Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has scored five touchdowns in the present year
New England equaled their longest winning run since the Brady period as they defeated division opponents the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
First-year standout Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the Patriots notched an eight-game winning streak for the first time since star signal-caller Brady's last year with the team in 2019
QB Drake Maye accumulated 281 passing yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 out of 34 attempts
Victory extends the New England's advantage at the top of the AFC East as they moved to a 9-2 record, with the New York bottom after falling to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Justin Fields running in a short rushing score to cap the Jets' initial series
But the home team answered in the second quarter as the rookie ran in two short rushing scores before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the back of the endzone halfway into the third period to extend the lead to 21 to 7
"That was a big time for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on the rookie. "He aims to be great."
Justin Fields found Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the final period as the Patriots wrapped up the victory
